Flux drum pump customer support - FAQs

Flux offers the widest range of drum and IBC pumps in the World. Choosing the right pump depends on many factors, which are summarised in eight main points below. Each of these points should then be considered in further detail, as described:

  1. CONTAINER – Tank, IBC, drum, barrel or smaller container? Each container type needs further consideration.  For example, for IBC’s and tanks, do you wish to pump from top outlet or low-level connection? Vertical installation will influence pump length selected. Additionally, what is the diameter of the container opening? Is it an open (open-head) or closed top (tight-head) drum?
  2. LIQUID – Which chemicals? First, check material resistance. Next, consider viscosity, density and temperature. Furthermore, are solid particles present? If so, what size? Additionally, is an inlet strainer required? Moreover, is the liquid flammable? For high viscosity media, consider its rheology – is it thixotropic, shear-thinning, shear-thickening, or Newtonian in nature? Finally, is the liquid cohesive or adhesive?
  3. MOTOR – What power supply is available? For example, 230 V, 110 V, 3-phase, or compressed air? Or perhaps consider a battery motor? Additionally, do you require a fixed or variable speed motor? Finally, what about noise level?
  4. ENVIRONMENT – Will the Flux drum pump be used in a safe area? Or alternatively, an ATEX-zoned area with flammable vapours? Additionally, are corrosive fumes present, such as concentrated acid fumes? Furthermore, is the pump for use in a food processing application? Is it for mobile use or fixed installation? Lastly, will the pump be moved repeatedly, for example, transported in a van?
  5. PUMPING CONDITIONS – What is the required flow rate and pumping distance (horizontal and vertical)? Furthermore, what is the bore size of the discharge hose or pipework? If transferring liquid a long distance, consider the pipework pressure losses.
  6. DUTY CYCLE – how many drums or IBC’s will be emptied per day, or week? Alternatively, what volume will be pumped and how often? For instance, continuous duty applications will require heavy-duty pumps, ideally with a brushless or 3-phase electric motor.
  7. ACCESSORIES – Consider if discharge hose is required (and if so, how long?) and whether hose clamps are also needed. Perhaps consider a hand nozzle for manual dispense control? Maybe a flowmeter would be useful, for monitoring how much product has been dispensed? Also, consider a fume gland to protect the operator from harmful vapours. Finally, how about a hoist, spring balance, or other pump handling equipment?
  8. SPECIAL APPLICATIONS – Want to pump and mix in a drum? Consider our F 426 pumps with selectable mixing function. Concerned about waste? Take a look at our F 425 pump with foot valve, to eliminate back-flow.  Flux can even manufacture a pump to meet your specific requirements. Do you need special pump, available from 1,500 to 3,000 mm long, for tank emptying? Or maybe an unusually short pump, for emptying shallow tanks or trays? Pumps are available down to 300 mm in length. Or perhaps you require a programmable, semi-automatic, batch dispensing system?

Whether handling corrosive chemicals, flammable liquids, or high-viscosity materials, we have a suitable solution. Contact us for expert guidance. Alternatively, visit our pump selection guide here.
