Note you should not use standard drum pump hose connectors in explosion hazard areas that require Ex-approved equipment, as identified by a DSEAR risk assessment. In such applications, it is critical to ensure there is a secure, conductive connection between the discharge hose and the pump. The easiest way to connect a discharge hose is to select the preferred hose connector, based on the pump type and material. Flux manufactures our F 400 series industrial pumps with a 1 1/4” BSPP female threaded outlet port. However, sanitary, food-grade pumps have a 1.5” tri-clamp ferrule outlet.
Firstly, push the female threaded union nut over the hose tail. Then, check that the PE gasket is seated correctly inside the union nut. Next, screw the female union onto the pump outlet. Once seated and tightened, the PE gasket will create a leak-proof seal. Now slide a bolted hose clamp over the end of the hose – hose clamps are available separately. Then push the end of the hose over the barbed hose tail, ensuring that it is pushed all the way on. Tighten the hose clamp securely, then test to ensure there are no leaks.
It is easiest to complete this operation with pump lying horizontally (perhaps on a bench), with the pump outlet facing vertically upwards. Firstly, seat the FKM gasket onto the pump outlet ferrule, then seat the hose tail on top of the gasket. Ensure the gasket sits correctly and is not pinched. Next, open the cardan clamp and position it over the two clamp ferrules, again ensuring that the two ferrules and the gasket are aligned. Finally, tighten the butterfly clamp and test for leaks.
Flux manufactures F 400 series drum pump hose connectors to suit three hose sizes – DN 19 (3/4”), DN25 (1”) and DN 32 (1 1/4”). DN 25 hose is the most common option, as DN25 hose provides high flow rates, good flexibility and compatibility with a wide range of dispense nozzles and accessories.
Note the hose connectors listed here are designed to fit the G1 1/4″ male outlet thread found on Flux 400 series drum pumps. This includes the F 424, F 425, F 426 and F 430 models.
However, standard steel hose connections should not be used in Ex applications, as they do not guarantee a conductive connection between the pump outlet and the hose. If an electrical potential difference occurs between the pump and the hose, a static electrical discharge could create a spark. To ensure a secure, leak-free connection:
If pumping high-temperature or highly corrosive media, stainless steel or PVDF connectors are likely to provide maximum service life.
