Firstly, the F 457 stands out as the most powerful motor in Flux’s electric commutator motor lineup, making it the go-to option for users requiring high flow rates or discharge pressure. Furthermore, its high torque rating and 800 W output provide sufficient power for handling viscous and high density media, plus for pumping longer vertical and horizontal distances. The F 457 can be used with all F 400 and F 570 series pump tubes, however it should be used in safe areas only – see model F 460 Ex for use in Zoned areas containing potentially flammable vapours. In addition, it is ideal for use with F 426 mixing pumps and larger, 50 – 100 mm diameter, high performance F 430 IBC pumps.
Unlike the standard fixed-speed models, the F 457 EL variant includes electronic stepless speed adjustment, enabling precise control over flow rate during filling, dosing, or batch dispensing operations. Additionally, this flexibility is useful in sensitive processes where foaming or excessive aeration is a concern.
From a design perspective, the IP 24 polypropylene housing is chemically resistant and tough enough to withstand impacts and heavy-duty use in industrial environments. Furthermore, the recessed pump driver and controls are protected from accidental damage. In addition, options are available for single-phase power supplies from 100 – 240 V, with globally recognised safety approvals. Its internal cooling fan maintains consistent airflow across motor components, thereby reducing the risk of overheating and ensuring a long operational life. However, this motor should not be used in environments subject to corrosive fumes – see alternative model F 458.
F 457 is the universal workhorse of the Flux motor range – it’s high power output covers a huge range of drum and IBC pumping applications. In addition, this motor is a serviceable design – replacement brushes and bearings are available from UK stock for ease of maintenance. Whether deployed in plant operations or mobile service systems, the F 457 delivers exceptional reliability and flexibility, even under heavy workloads.
Selecting the right drum pump motor depends on the following factors:
Considering these factors will help you to choose the most suitable motor for your application.
Both F 457 and FEM 4070 are IP 24 ingress protected electric AC commutator motors, for use with drum or IBC pumps. They are designed for use in similar environments, for example safe areas without the presence of excessive moisture, corrosive fumes, or flammable vapours. Furthermore, both motors are suitable for continuous operation. The key differences in their specifications and focus is outlined below:

The Flux F 457 drum pump motor is a single-phase, AC electric commutator motor, designed to deliver rotational torque directly to the pump shaft. An AC commutator motor is a type of electric motor that runs on alternating current (AC) but incorporates a commutator and brushes, similar to a DC motor. Furthermore, it is designed to combine the benefits of AC power supply with the torque characteristics of DC motors.
Key components:
Stator: Produces the magnetic field, typically using laminated iron cores with AC field windings.
Rotor (Armature): A rotating component with windings that carry current and interact with the stator’s magnetic field to produce torque.
Commutator: A segmented, rotating copper ring that switches the current direction in the armature coils, thereby enabling continuous torque in one direction.
Brushes: Stationary carbon elements that deliver current from the external AC source to the rotating commutator.
