Hose Type | Inner Lining | Outer Ø (mm) | Max Temp (°C) | Certification | Max Pressure (Bar) | Application Examples |
PVC Food-Grade Hose | PVC | 27 | 65 °C | EC 1935/2004 Compliant | 5 Bar | Wine, fruit juice, cooking oils, dilute acids & alkalis, water |
UHMWPE-Lined Hose | UHMWPE | 31 | 100 °C | US FDA Compliant | 16 bar | Concentrated acids, alkalis, corrosive chemicals |
NBR-Lined Petroleum Hose | NBR Rubber | 27 | 80 °C | EN12115:2011 (Electrically Conductive) | 10 bar | Diesel, petrol, grease, mineral oil, hydrocarbons |
Firstly, selecting the correct discharge hose involves a systematic evaluation of fluid type, temperature range, regulatory requirements and operating conditions.
Therefore, start by identifying the chemical compatibility of the hose material with your pumped liquid. For example, for food applications, PVC is the optimal choice, being cost-effective, non-toxic, flexible and compliant with EC 1935/2004 food regulations. This hose is also suitable for use with dilute acids and alkalis, mineral oils and water-based chemicals, as well as food and beverage products.
When handling corrosive or chemically reactive substances, UHMWPE (Ultra High Molecular Weight Polyethylene) lined hose provides exceptional resistance to a wide range of acids, bases and solvents. Furthermore, this hose is also food safe, with a smooth inner liner that reduces friction and prevents biofilm buildup. Note this hose is non-conductive and therefore not suitable for use with flammable liquids, or in hazardous Zoned areas.
For fuels, mineral oils and petroleum products, NBR (Nitrile Butadiene Rubber) offers excellent hydrocarbon resistance. In addition, its structure resists swelling, softening, or deterioration even under continuous oil exposure.
Pressure rating and temperature tolerance also play a critical role. UHMWPE hose is safe for use at high discharge pressures – up to 16 Bar. Furthermore, UHMWPE withstands liquid temperatures up to 100°C. For NBR it’s 80°C, and PVC 65°C. Finally, consider hose diameter, hose clamps and hose connections required to ensure a leak-proof, secure fit with the drum pump. Contact Flux to discuss ATEX applications and high pressure, or high viscosity applications.
A suction hose operates safely under negative pressure and is designed for use with self-priming pumps, for example an air-operated diaphragm pump. Furthermore, it typically includes rigid spiral reinforcement to prevent collapse under vacuum conditions. In contrast, a discharge hose carries pressurised fluid away from the pump outlet. It must withstand positive pressure, chemical exposure and additionally, mechanical abrasion.
Flux 19 mm UHMWPE hose is “suction and discharge” hose, designed for both suction-side and pressure-side applications. Its high chemical resistance ensures this hose can consequently be used in almost any liquid transfer application, including food products.
In summary, suction hoses must be vacuum resistant, while discharge hoses prioritise pressure resistance, flow stability, flexibility, abrasion and kink resistance.
PVC food-grade discharge hose
Firstly, this cost-effective, 5 Bar rated delivery hose is engineered from flexible, food-safe Poly-Vinyl Chloride (PVC). It is free of phthalates and plasticisers, therefore ensuring no transfer of odour, flavour, or contaminants to sensitive media. The inner surface is ultra-smooth, consequently to minimise the chance of microbial accumulation and facilitates CIP (Clean-in-Place) cleaning procedures.
It is ideal for many common fluids, such as:
Certified to EC 1935/2004, this hose therefore meets strict European safety standards for materials in contact with food.
UHMWPE-lined suction and delivery hose
Engineered for use with corrosive chemicals, this tough hose features an Ultra High Molecular Weight Polyethylene (UHMWPE) inner liner—a material known for its extraordinary chemical resistance and low coefficient of friction. Additionally, this hose is EN 1935/2004 approved for use with food products.
Plus this hose is suitable for use in pharmaceutical, cosmetic and chemical processing applications where hygiene and chemical resistance are essential. Finally, this hose is highly abrasion resistant and flexible – essential when dispensing into different vessels, or filling smaller containers.
NBR-lined petroleum delivery hose
This 10 Bar pressure rated discharge hose, is constructed with a nitrile rubber (NBR) inner layer and abrasion resistant outer. It is designed for the transfer of mineral oils, lubricants, diesel and gasoline. Furthermore, NBR offers excellent mechanical strength and superior resistance to hydrocarbons.
Key features:
This hose is well-suited to automotive workshops, fuel handling and additionally, use in maintenance depots.
