Firstly, the Flux FEM 4070 is a high quality, cost-effective electric motor designed for use with our F 400 series pump tubes. It is a brushed commutator motor for use with single-phase power supplies from 100 – 240 V (check model codes before use). This motor is suitable for most common, low viscosity drum and IBC emptying applications in safe areas, which do not contain flammable vapours or corrosive fumes.
Furthermore, the FEM 4070 incorporates infinitely variable speed control, enabling the operator to adjust the flow rate precisely. This is useful for applications involving shear-sensitive or foaming fluids. This feature is also advantageous in laboratory or batch processing environments, where dispensing accuracy and repeatability are essential.
The compact housing, manufactured from tough Polyamide, offers excellent dimensional stability at high ambient temperatures, along with good impact resistance. The fan cooled ventilation system actively dissipates heat, allowing continuous-duty operation (S1 rating) even with higher viscosity and higher density liquids*. Moreover, IP 24 ingress protection makes it suitable for splash-prone environments, while the low operational noise level enhances user comfort in enclosed workspaces. Additionally, the ergonomic handle and controls help reduce operator fatigue.
With its quick-release pump connection, the user can easily move this motor between several pump tubes, adding convenience without extra cost. Finally, FEM 4070 is a serviceable design, manufactured in Germany and engineered to deliver long-term durability and performance.
The FEM 4070 motor is a logical and dependable choice for most container emptying applications. Whether handling alkalis, cleaning products, dilute acids, oils, or other chemicals, this motor provides the necessary torque and control to efficiently move liquids from standard 200-litre drums, 60-litre barrels, or IBC totes, depending on the pump tube length.
Thanks to its quick-release coupling, the FEM 4070 securely connects to all F 400 series pump tubes: in polypropylene, PVDF, aluminium, or stainless steel. This neat design supports operational flexibility, but also reduces capital expenditure by allowing one motor to power multiple pump assemblies.
To summarise, FEM 4070 is our standard drum pump motor. It covers all the bases: robust housing, sensible price, continuous duty rating, 500W power output for handling low-medium viscosity fluids, standard speed control and an ergonomic design with recessed controls. Plus, replacement parts are readily available. Furthermore, motors are available for any single-phase power supply from 100 – 240V, each with overload protection. And finally, these motors are fully certified for use anywhere in the World.
F 458 and FEM 4070 motors are both suitable for use with our F 400 series pumps, for emptying drums, barrels and IBC’s. However, they differ significantly in functionality, design, specification and features.
FEM 4070 is our volume selling, low cost drum pump motor, featuring variable speed control as standard. It is light and portable, weighing 2.6 kg and featuring a tough Polyamide housing. This is an internally cooled motor with IP 24 ingress protection. Internal cooling relies on an integral fan that draws cooling air up from the base of the motor, through the motor windings and out through exhaust ports at the top of the housing.
In contrast, the F 458 is an IP 55, totally-enclosed motor, with an aluminium double-walled housing. The motor housing is finished with durable, corrosion-resistant paint. For this reason, it is approximately 40% more expensive than the FEM 4070 and weighs around 6 kg. Furthermore, cooling air is drawn up around the inner motor enclosure, and does not pass through the motor windings.
F 458 offers several significant benefits over FEM 4070:
The Flux FEM 4070 operates on the principle of an AC commutator motor, combining high-speed capability with excellent torque output, energy efficiency and sensible pricing. When connected to the power supply, the motor converts electrical energy into mechanical motion through an armature and winding system. Its recessed, infinitely variable speed control potentiometer, built directly into the handle, allows the operator to adjust the motor speed (and thus pumping rate) in real time.
Internally, the motor is cooled by a fan-driven airflow system, which draws ambient air through inlets at the bottom of the motor housing. Air passes through the motor windings, drawing away heat, before exhausting through the upper motor housing. This airflow path ensures even temperature distribution and prevents heat build-up during extended operation. Thermal sensors monitor the core temperature of the motor windings and a high-temperature cut-out protects the motor from irreversible damage in high-load scenarios, for example pumping a product with excessive viscosity.
The lower motor housing is threaded for straightforward connection to any Flux F 400 type pump tube, via the pump hand wheel. Torque is transmitted to the pump via a tough, recessed driver. The driver is replaceable in the event of failure, for example, if a large solid item accidentally jams the pump impeller.
The drive coupling is delivers smooth transfer of rotational energy to the pump, with low vibration levels – particularly advantageous when working with longer pumps, or precision dispensing systems.
In terms of electronic functionality, the FEM 4070 includes optional features such as no-volt release and low-voltage cut-off. These are important safety features, designed to prevent unintentional restart and protect the motor if used with unreliable power supplies.
Note this motor is suitable for use in safe areas only.
