F 500 pumps are powered by the F 457 800 W single-phase motor, the F 403 gear motor, or a choice of three-phase motors, depending on model. Read on to explore our full range of motor options for high viscosity pumping.
Flux drum pump motors are ergonomically designed, tough and energy efficient. Models are available for both 230 V and 110 V single-phase electricity supply. Furthermore, every Flux motor is a serviceable design, rated for continuous running (marked S1) and 100% made in our German factory using European components. Each motor is individually tested before sale. Moreover, our motors draw less current for the same performance, when compared to competitors’ products.
Flux manufactures both internally-cooled and externally-cooled electric drum pump motor designs, with power ratings from 230 W to 800 W.
FEM 3070, FEM 4070 and F 457 motors are economical, heavy-duty designs for standard industrial drum and IBC transfer applications. These motors have a nylon body with IP 24 ingress protection against dust and liquid.
Cooling air is drawn through the motor windings by the fan. Therefore, these motors are not suitable for long term use (or storage) in environments with corrosive or explosive vapours, for example, concentrated acid baths or ATEX zoned areas.
In addition, microscopic carbon deposits, created as the motor brushes wear, are not retained inside the motor housing. Therefore, we recommend using externally-cooled, double-walled motors for sanitary, food and pharmaceutical applications.
F 458 and F 460 Ex motors are double-walled alloy bodied designs, suitable for sanitary applications, use in corrosive atmospheres and ATEX zoned areas containing flammable vapours (F 460 Ex model only).
Furthermore, these motors feature class-leading IP 55 ingress protection and corrosion resistant paint. For extreme, heavy-duty use, consider the maintenance-free FBM 4000 brushless motor.

Flux three-phase electric drum pump motors are designed for demanding industrial applications where pumps face extreme operating conditions with extended duty cycles. These motors deliver consistent speed, therefore ensuring stable and reliable performance, even in heavy-duty operations. Furthermore, these motors do not use carbon brushes and their low-wear design reduces maintenance requirements.
With high output power, three-phase motors are typically used with our IBC mixers and F 500 series Viscopower high-viscosity pumps, for handling fluids up to 100,000 mPas. However, F 414 motors are also available for use with our F 400 series centrifugal pumps.
These motors provide exceptional durability, efficiency and long-term reliability for a wide range of electric drum pump applications.
Flux three phase motors are available with:
Motor F 414 – Extreme duty three-phase motor for F 400 series
Motor F 403 – for high-viscosity F 500 series with i7 gearbox
Motor DSM – For F 500 series progressive cavity pumps
Spur gear drive motor – For variable speed control for F 500 series pumps

A electric drum pump is a convenient, safe way to transfer liquids from drums and containers. A top-mounted motor is used to drive a shaft-mounted impeller, which is located at the bottom of a long pump tube. The pump is inserted into the drum. Centrifugal force created by the impeller drives liquid up the pump tube and out of the side discharge port.
Motors and pump tubes are available in different materials, lengths, types and configurations, to suit a wide range of industrial applications.
230 V drum pump motors are more common, being used with standard mains electricity supply and fitted with a 3-pin plug. Lower voltage 110 V motors are a safer option, designed for use on high risk industrial and construction sites. 110 V motors are often used in conjunction with a mains transformer that reduces the voltage.
As a rule, 230 V motors are more efficient than 110 V, however, they both deliver the same power output. The choice depends on the application, power supply available, customer specific rules and site safety requirements. To find out more, visit our helpful information on electric motors here.
To select the ideal electric drum pump, consider container depth, liquid viscosity, desired performance (flow rate & discharge pressure), duty cycle and available power supply. Check that wetted materials are chemically compatible with the liquid and that the pump meets applicable standards eg. for handling food products, or flammable media. For more detailed advice, see our drum pump selection guide.
