IBC Mixer and Agitators from Flux Pumps

Custom configured IBC mixer for any mixing operation

Anyone needing to disperse, emulsify, homogenise, dissolve, mix, neutralise, stir, or circulate efficiently is faced with a demanding task from a technical and physical point of view. The mixing effect depends on the shape of the container, the material and of course the type of IBC agitator. An IBC mixer delivers effective mixing for a variety of applications.

Thanks to the Flux modular mixer system, we can offer a range of IBC agitator materials and different blade sizes. Subsequently, this makes it possible to configure the mixer components - motor, shaft and mixing blade - optimally for each application. Whether you need to mix low or high viscosity liquids, a Flux IBC mixer offers a reliable solution for IBC containers. The configuration of low shear paddle mixers includes a low-ratio gearbox and folding mixing blades.

  • Viscosity: max. 10.000 mPas*
  • Circulating performance : max. 3.600 m3/h*
  • Typical container sizes: 250 l to 1,000 l*

*Dependent on model, medium and motor

IBC mixer and agitator solutions

For low to medium viscosity media in IBC's and smaller containers

Flux propeller IBC mixers deliver efficient, high-shear mixing and high circulating performance. They are ideal for applications requiring quick, thorough blending.

Additionally, the propeller design is optimised to rotate the contents of the IBC smoothly and steadily, without splashing. Flux propeller IBC agitators can be used in the following applications: stirring, dispersion, emulsification, homogenisation, mixing and neutralisation. High-shear IBC mixers are available from UK stock for liquids up to 1500 mPas.

Flux developed the propeller IBC mixer as a modular system, with interchangeable mixer shafts ranging from 500 to 1500mm in length. Driveshafts are offered in stainless steel 316 L or PE-coated steel, depending on the liquids to be mixed. Furthermore, mixing blades are available in stainless steel 316 L, polypropylene and PVDF.

Furthermore, electric drive motors are available for 110 V or 230 V single phase supply, or 3-phase 230 / 400 V supply, in accordance with IEC standards. An inverter can be added to vary mixing speed, for example, when mixing high-foaming liquids or powders. A 1.2 kW compressed air motor option is also available. Maximum motor speed is 1000-1500 RPM depending on viscosity and motor power.  This may seem fast, but correct specification of the motor and mixing blade will result in efficient vortex creation and optimal rotation of the IBC contents.

For viscous liquids and high circulating performance

Paddle IBC mixers are specifically designed for high-viscosity or shear-sensitive liquids and provide exceptional circulating performance. These high torque, low speed mixers are perfect for applications where continuous mixing is required, especially for viscous liquids or those with higher solids content. The Flux paddle IBC mixer is used for dispersing, emulsifying, homogenising, dissolving, mixing, neutralising, stirring, or circulating efficiently.

The Flux paddle IBC agitator can handle fluids of viscosity up to 10,000 mPas. The hinged, flat-bladed paddle will fit though a standard DN 150 IBC opening and delivers efficient mixing with low-speed, low-shear operation. Twin-blade variants are available for very high viscosity, applications and sticky, high density or difficult materials. In addition, low-ratio gearboxes reduce shaft speed to 70-133 RPM, depending on model. Furthermore, mixer shafts and blades are available in stainless steel 316 L material. Drive motors are 3-phase 230 / 400 V electric only.

Benefits/Features:

  • Circulating performance: up to 3.600 m3/h
  • Low speed: approx. 70-133 rpm
  • For fluids up to max viscosity 10,000 mPas in IBC's
  • Suitable for high viscosity fluids in IBC's and smaller tanks
  • Suitable for low viscosity fluids in large tanks >4000 litres
  • Motor, gearbox and IBC mounting traverse included
  • 3-phase motors with motor protection isolator
  • Optional inverters for variable speed control
  • Shafts and blades in stainless steel 316 L
  • IBC models with folding 400 mm diameter blades
  • Suitable for liquids with up to 10% solids

  • High speed propeller mixers: 1000-1500 RPM direct motor drive without gearbox. These mixers are lightweight and portable, with a fixed single propeller blade. Furthermore, there is a choice of wetted materials, depending on application. These mixers are best for applications requiring quick dispersion and uniform mixing of low to medium viscosity liquids up to 2,500 mPas. Not suitable for shear-sensitive liquids.
  • Slow speed paddle mixers: 70-133 RPM gearbox driven mixers for delicate, shear-sensitive or high viscosity media up to 10,000 mPas, therefore providing controlled low-speed mixing for sensitive substances. Supplied with IBC mounted support traverse. Supplied with single or double hinged blades, depending on application.

IBC mixer – FAQs

IBC mixers are used in a variety of liquid processing tasks such as emulsification, homogenisation, dissolution, dispersion, neutralisation and circulation. These mixing processes can be critical to ensure product consistency, prevent sedimentation and improve chemical reactions. IBC agitators are commonly used in manufacturing, chemical processing, cosmetics, paint & coatings and water treatment applications.

Typical applications include:

  • Blending of two or more liquids to form a uniform solution
  • Keeping particles in suspension to prevent settling in slurries
  • Creating emulsions by mixing immiscible liquids such as oil and water
  • Dissolving powders or granules into liquids
  • Adjusting pH by mixing neutralising agents
  • Maintaining product homogeneity during storage or transport

Whether you’re handling low-viscosity, water-based fluids or high density, high-solids suspensions, Flux IBC mixers are engineered to deliver consistent, energy-efficient performance in industrial environments.

IBC mixers are capable of mixing fluids with viscosities up to 10,000 mPas, depending on media rheology and the type of mixer, motor configuration and blade geometry.

  • Propeller IBC mixers are designed for low to medium viscosity fluids (typically up to 2,500 mPas). These mixers operate at high rotational speeds (up to 1,500 RPM) and generate high shear forces for efficient vortex formation, ideal for blending, dispersion and emulsification tasks.
  • Slow-running paddle mixers are suitable for higher viscosity or shear-sensitive media, up to 10,000 mPas. Operating at low speeds (around 70–133 RPM), these mixers deliver high torque and gentle agitation, suitable for flowable, non-adhesive materials that could otherwise be damaged by high shear.

Factors such as fluid temperature, solids content and mixing duration can also affect the efficiency of mixing at higher viscosities. For high viscosity applications, an in-depth evaluation of the medium and process goals is recommended.

Yes, with a few caveats. The mixer components should be constructed from materials that are chemically compatible with all the fluids being handled. Flux IBC agitators are modular and can be configured with a range of corrosion-resistant materials, including:

  • Stainless Steel 316 L – suitable for most organic and inorganic chemicals and oils
  • Polypropylene (PP) – suitable for a wide range of neutral, acidic and alkaline chemicals
  • PVDF (Polyvinylidene fluoride) – highly resistant to strong acids, solvents and oxidising agents

If you are mixing different liquids in the same IBC or repurposing the mixer across several products, always ensure that cross-contamination is avoided and that materials of construction are compatible with all substances involved. Consult chemical resistance charts, or our technical team can advise. The modular designs allow for easy disassembly and thorough sanitation where required.  Note that Flux IBC mixers should not be used with flammable liquids.
