Ingersoll Rand ARO diaphragm pumps - FAQs

Ingersoll Rand ARO diaphragm pumps operate using compressed air to drive two flexible diaphragms back and forth. These diaphragms are connected by a shaft, ensuring simultaneous movement. Each diaphragm is linked to a pumping chamber. When one diaphragm moves inwards, it creates a vacuum that draws fluid into the chamber through an inlet valve. At the same time, as the other diaphragm moves outwards, it forces the fluid out through the discharge valve. This resulting alternating motion delivers continuous fluid transfer. ARO diaphragm pumps are seal-less designs that minimise the risk of leakage.

Furthermore, the pump’s air valve system controls the movement of compressed air between the two diaphragms, ensuring smooth and efficient operation. In addition, patented features such as SimulShift™ air valves prevent stalling, and Quick Dump™ check valves reduce the possibility of icing that can result from running pumps at high cycle rates.

The life expectancy of Ingersoll Rand ARO diaphragm pumps depends on several factors, including the type of fluid being pumped, operating conditions and maintenance practices. ARO EXP diaphragm pumps are engineered for durability, often outlasting other diaphragm pumps on the market by up to four times.

Factors that influence lifespan include:

  • Material selection – Choosing the correct diaphragm and housing materials for the fluid type ensures longevity.
  • Operating pressure – Running within recommended pressure limits prevents premature wear.
  • Pump speed – Running the pump near the middle of its performance curve will prolong diaphragm life.
  • Dry running – Although all diaphragm pumps can be run dry, extended periods of dry running will compromise diaphragm life.
  • Maintenance schedule – Regular inspections and timely diaphragm replacements extend service life and prevent leaks.
  • Environmental conditions – Exposure to extreme temperatures or abrasive fluids may shorten the pump’s lifespan.

With proper maintenance, correct sizing and the right material selection, an ARO diaphragm pump can operate for millions of cycles before requiring major repairs. Widely available service kits makes maintenance simple and cost-effective, ensuring continued reliable performance.

  • Superior flow rates – 20-30% higher than competitors
  • FDA-approved materials for safe liquid handling
  • Quick maintenance with easy dismantling and servicing
  • Durable construction ensures long service life
  • High clearance flap valve models for extreme solids handling
  • High pressure models for challenging applications
