Firstly, a liquid flow meter is a precision measurement device engineered to quantify the volumetric or mass flow rate of a liquid as it passes through a pipeline or transfer system. In industrial applications, flow meters play a crucial role in ensuring process accuracy, dispensing control and compliance with quality standards. The Flux FMT 120 operates based on the turbine wheel principle, wherein a rotating impeller, aligned with the direction of flow, consequently generates a measurable signal proportional to the liquid’s velocity. This signal is processed electronically and displayed as either instantaneous flow rate, or total volume transferred.
The flow meter must be calibrated for variables such as fluid viscosity, density and temperature, all of which influence measurement precision. For applications with low-viscosity, non-flammable fluids, the FMT 120 delivers outstanding accuracy and chemical resistance, along with user-friendly operation.
Flux manufactures several alternative flow meter designs. Each design has specific features and benefits that determine their suitability for the task at hand. Our designs include nutating-disc meters (see Flux FMC models) and oval-geared meters (see Flux FMO models). Food-grade FMO flow meters are also available for sanitary or pharmaceutical use. Flow meter selection depends on the following criteria:
Flow meters are the ideal solution for tank, drum and IBC dispensing in a huge range of applications, such as chemical processing, food and beverage production, precision manufacturing and environmental services. Furthermore, adding a switching amplifier and batch controller can enable accurate, one-touch dispensing operations. Please contact us for guidance on flow meter selection.
While both water meters and flow meters serve the purpose of quantifying fluid movement, their design, materials and intended applications may differ substantially. A water meter is typically designed for residential or municipal use and is calibrated for clean, potable water with consistent flow characteristics. Furthermore, water meters often lack the robustness or material compatibility required for handling chemically aggressive or abrasive fluids, flammable liquids, or fluids containing solid particles, especially at high pressures.
In contrast, a liquid flow meter, such as the Flux FMT 120, is purpose-built for industrial and chemical applications, offering superior material resistance, a broader operating range for density and pressure, along with enhanced functionality. The FMT 120’s re-inforced polypropylene housing with PTFE seals allows it to withstand coolant, oils, acids and alkalis, therefore making it ideal for use with drum pump systems that handle a diverse range of chemicals.
Moreover, industrial flow meters can interface with control systems or data loggers, providing a pulse output or communication protocols for automated process control, which are capabilities rarely found in basic water meters. This distinction therefore makes chemical flow meters indispensable for accurate dosing, batching and transfer of difficult fluids in regulated industries.
