Therefore, at Flux Pumps, we offer a sanitary drum pump designed to safely handle cosmetic ingredients. Our pumps—such as the F 427, F 430 and VISCOPOWER ensure precise, contamination-free transfer of liquids such as soaps, hair care products, creams, oils and fragrances. We ensure these valuable ingredients are precisely dispensed. Trusted by the world’s finest cosmetics brands, Flux Pumps carefully transfer sensitive gels and high-viscosity products such as mascara and petroleum jelly, maintaining a consistent flow rate. Thus, delivering safe, reliable performance in every application.

Key features of a Flux sanitary drum pump

Valuable raw materials, extracts and concentrates are essential to producing cosmetics. Therefore, the equipment and machines used are subject to demanding hygiene requirements and must be easy and safe to clean. The variety of skin, lip, eye care products or facemasks also places importance on the flexibility of pumping solutions.

A Flux sanitary drum pump stands for hygienic design, precision and durability. Here’s why they’re the ideal choice for cosmetic manufacturers:

  • Built for hygienic transfer: Firstly, our pumps, like the Flux F 427 series, are designed to prevent contamination and preserve product quality.
  • Easy to clean: The F 427 features quick tool-free disassembly, allowing for easy cleaning and sterilisation between uses.
  • Precise dispensing control: Furthermore, these pumps offer adjustable flow rates, ensuring accuracy in dispensing, reducing waste and increasing efficiency.
  • FDA-compliant materials: Finally, our sanitary drum pump range use FDA-approved materials to ensure safe contact with cosmetic ingredients.

Applications in the cosmetics industry

Flux sanitary drum pumps have a wide range of applications within the cosmetics industry, including:

  • Ingredient transfer: Efficiently transfer base ingredients, such as oils and liquid additives, while maintaining purity.
  • Fragrance handling: Safely pump delicate fragrances with precision and without contamination. ATEX certified pumps and motors are available for handling flammable liquids.
  • Cream and lotion dispensing: Accurately pump creams, lotions and other viscous products for consistent formulation. Flux Pumps are suitable for a range of cosmetic liquids, from oils and fragrances to creams and lotions.
  • Soap and shampoo manufacturing: Use our Viscopower pump to empty mixing vessels, fill smaller containers and transfer material to filling machines or hoppers.

Can a sanitary drum pump handle sensitive cosmetics without altering their properties?

Yes, certain drum pumps can transfer sensitive cosmetics without altering their properties, but  not all models are suitable. Positive displacement pumps such as the Flux progressive cavity Viscopower, or RFM air-operated diaphragm pumps, are ideal. These pumps apply minimal shear forces and can handle soft solids in suspension, preserving the consistency and quality of sensitive products such as creams, lotions and gels. Additionally, Viscopower delivers consistent flow rates without pulsation, ideal for filling smaller containers. Flux Pumps are constructed from materials such as stainless steel and PTFE, ensuring compatibility with cosmetic formulations while preventing contamination.

Can a drum pump handle abrasive cosmetic ingredients like mascara?

Our Viscopower pump can handle mascara or other semi-abrasive products such as face clay, or products containing a limited quantity of larger particles. Particles up to 8 mm in diameter can pass through the pump without damage. Note that Viscopower should ideally be fitted with a softer NBR or FKM stator when handling more abrasive media. These stators tend to wear more slowly than harder options, e.g. PTFE. Viscopower is not suitable for use with highly abrasive media e.g. materials containing large quantities of Titanium Dioxide particles.

What is the best sanitary drum pump for transferring shampoo raw materials and finished products?

The Flux Viscopower progressive cavity pump is the perfect sanitary drum pump for transferring shampoo raw materials from 200-litre plastic drums into mixing vessels. In small batch production, workers manually scoop these materials, a time-consuming process that causes significant spillage and waste. The Viscopower pump provides a lightweight, portable and easy-to-clean method of improving the transfer process, making it ideal for any producer of high-quality cosmetics.

Viscopower is capable of handling viscosities >100,000 mPas, depending on material rheology. Therefore, this sanitary drum pump ensures quick and efficient transfer of raw materials such as soap, shampoo and conditioner. Additionally, by replacing manual handling, the pump reduces waste, improves efficiency and protects employees, making it a valuable tool for cosmetic manufacturers.

What is the best pump for dispensing essential oils, perfume oils and fragrance agents?

The F 430 S FDA Ex drum pump is the ideal solution for dispensing essential oils, perfume oils, fragrance agents and other essences from 200-litre drums. Designed with FDA and Ex approval, it meets stringent hygienic and safety standards, making it perfect for use in cosmetics applications where flammable liquids and vapours are present.

This pump is made from highly polished 316 grade stainless steel, ensuring safe, hygienic handling of cosmetic ingredients. The pump is capable of transferring oils up to max viscosity approx. 1000 mPas and is easy to clean, with its two main parts being quickly disassembled. A mechanical seal ensures liquid cannot enter the inner tube and pump bearings. This minimises wetted area inside the pump, thereby reducing risk of cross-contamination when transferring the pump between different liquids.

The pump can be powered by electric or compressed air motors, both of which are Ex certified for use in Zoned ATEX areas. Finally, being highly portable, the F 430 can easily transfer liquids from various sized containers from IBCs to small totes, making it ideal for many different applications.

How can I transfer high-viscosity healing clay from drums to a hopper without manual handling?

For transferring high-viscosity, abrasive healing clay from 200-litre drums to a hopper and then directly to packaging, the ViscoFlux Mobile S Drum Emptying System is the ideal solution. This system eliminates manual handling, providing a fast, efficient and mobile option for your needs.

The ViscoFlux Mobile S is designed specifically for challenging materials like healing clay, non-flowable cream, or petroleum jelly and is FDA/EN 1935 certified, making it perfect for pharmaceutical, food and cosmetic applications. The system utilises our Viscopower pump with follower plate and process seal, ensuring highly efficient drum emptying with less than 1% residue remaining. The follower plate hermetically seals the drum, eliminating the possibility of air ingress or media contamination.

In addition, the system is simple to operate and easy to clean, with a range of control options available. Options include manual on/off operation, or automated dispensing using the Fluxtronic batch controller. For added versatility, the spur gear motor allows you to adjust the pump speed for optimal filling, making it a reliable,  time-saving solution for transferring high-viscosity products.
