Drum Pumps for Flammable Liquids – The Ideal Solution for the Oil & Gas Industry

At Flux we are dedicated to providing safe, reliable drum pumps for flammable liquids. Flux manufactures a range of drum and barrel pumps for use in ATEX zoned areas (to ATEX Directive 2014/34/EU). These products are notified by the red Ex symbol. Our pumps not only ensure fast, efficient fluid transfer, but also help to minimise risks in hazardous environments. Whether you are moving fuels or handling solvents, these drum pumps provide the highest levels of safety and control.

Flux constructs all ATEX pumps from 316 Stainless Steel and conductive fluoropolymers. Pumps for low-viscosity applications include the FP 424, F 430 S, and F 425 Series. F 430 S FOOD is also approved for sanitary use (EC 1935/2004 standard) and is ideal for pumping alcohols. The VISCOPOWER series is designed for high-viscosity fluids (max. approx. viscosity 100,000 cP). ATEX-certified electric drive motors include the proven F 460 Ex and FBM 4000 brushless models. Alternatively, we can supply F 416 Ex and FPM compressed air motors.

Key features of Flux drum pumps for flammable liquids

When it comes to handling flammable liquids, meeting high safety standards is crucial. Therefore, Flux expertly engineers its drum pumps to prevent explosion risks associated with poor handling or substandard equipment. Our pumps offer:

  • Enhanced safety: Conductive materials, zone separation and ATEX certification reduce risk of flash fires and ensure operational safety when using our pumps.
  • Earth bonding points: Reduce the risk of dangerous static electricity buildup, which is essential when handling highly flammable liquids.
  • Compliance with UK standards: All Flux pumps meet strict UK and European safety regulations, including full ATEX certification for explosive atmospheres.
  • Chemical compatibility: These pumps are suitable for transferring various hazardous chemicals, including petrol, diesel, kerosene and solvents.

What are the uses of pumps in the oil and gas industry?

In the oil and gas industry, Flux drum pumps are an essential tool for transferring liquids safely, precisely and efficiently. Here's how the oil and gas industry utilises these pumps:

Fuel transfer:

  • Safely pump petrol, diesel and kerosene from storage drums, tanks, and containers to machinery and equipment.
  • ATEX-certified and anti-static construction minimises ignition risks in potentially explosive environments.

Chemical handling:

  • Transfer hazardous chemicals like solvents, hydraulic fluids and lubricants used in drilling, extraction and refining.
  • Ensures safe handling of fuel additives, preventing leaks and protecting both workers and the environment.

Equipment maintenance:

  • Dispense industrial solvents, degreasers, corrosion inhibitors and cleaning agents required for regular maintenance of drilling rigs, pipelines and machinery.
  • Helps maintain essential equipment safely, reducing downtime and enhancing overall site safety.

How do you pump flammable liquids?

Pumping flammable liquids requires specialised equipment and strictly controlled procedures to maintain safety. ATEX-certified pumps, like those provided by Flux, are specifically designed for hazardous environments, using 316 stainless steel and anti-static, conductive materials to eliminate risk associated with flash fire or static buildup. The ATEX certification (Directive 2014/34/EU) ensures the pump meets stringent safety standards, making it suitable for explosive atmospheres in industries like oil and gas.

To further enhance safety, Flux pumps use grounding techniques and anti-static hoses to dissipate static electricity, minimising fire risks during fluid transfer. Proper handling, regular maintenance and routine inspections are also crucial, helping to detect potential issues such as wear or damage that could create hazards. With these features and precautions, Flux drum pumps offer a reliable solution for safely transferring flammable liquids.
