How do I confirm the correct Flux Drum Pump Part?

Identify your pump model and then download the spare parts drawing to identify the exact part number you require. F 400 series pumps share many components, but o-rings, gaskets, impellers and bearings vary by pump type, material, length and diameter, so check carefully to ensure the correct spare part is selected.

What’s the difference between FKM, EPDM, NBR and FEP seals?

FKM, NBR and FEP are o-ring materials. The correct choice depends on the pump model and the fluid being transferred, its concentration, temperature and contact time.

  • Firstly, FKM is a fluoroelastomer (trade name Viton) commonly used where good chemical and temperature resistance is required. FKM is our most common seal material, covering a wide range of applications, but ideal for oils, acids and water-based chemical media.
  • EPDM is a flexible synthetic rubber, with good temperature resistance, ideally suited to strong alkalis, such as Sodium Hydroxide.
  • NBR is nitrile rubber. It is compatible with petroleum products such as mineral oil, grease, diesel and many other industrial fluids, such as coolant and glycol. However, NBR is unsuitable for acids, alkalis, corrosive chemicals or high-temperature applications.
  • Lastly, FEP is a chemically resistant fluoropolymer material that is used as a coating on FKM and other seal materials. FEP therefore provides very good resistance to a broad range of corrosive liquids including strong acids, flammable solvents and fuels.

Because chemical resistance can vary with temperature and chemical concentration, customers should always check compatibility before ordering replacement seals. For additional guidance, use the Flux Chemical Resistance guide.

Are impellers interchangeable across the F 400 series?

Mostly, but not always. Most F 400 series pumps can be specified with interchangeable, axial or semi-axial impeller designs, constructed from ETFE (or sometimes stainless steel) material.  However, always check pump diameter, model type and spare parts drawings before selecting a replacement impeller. Alternatively, contact us for further guidance.
